Replication Toolkit Phase:

Risk & Refine

Guiding Tip: Risk unconventional birthing.

Those with money and influence over your work often want you to create unconventional solutions but demand they be achieved through conventional means.

Resist this.

Accountability is necessary but negotiate it in ways that allow you to imagine, create and evolve. Like babies coming into this world, your work may need unconventional context and gestation to bring forth what is most needed.

To Risk & Refine

  1. Identify and form teams to take responsibility for and lead implementation

  2. Build community-participatory evaluation into the initial design

  3. Phase and pilot the work in manageable chunks, study impact, refine and enlarge

Steps to Risk & Refine

Reflection on Risking & Refining: Stay at the table.

Cross-cultural partnership tackling injustice is inherently risky.

Conflict is inevitable based on a myriad of issues including differences in cultural norms. The real risk though comes with a commitment to stay at the table rather than fleeing when conflict surfaces.

This requires breathing, listening, speaking pains felt and owning harms caused. Staying at the table will help you find new ways forward together.

It is a risk worth taking.
